Craig's 1966 Bandmaster In Progress Page
11/20/03
Initial Condition
Original caps covered in what seems to be black soot.
Check out the use of black cloth wire! Most failed solder connection in a Fender
Black or Silverface Amp.
Slightly rusty power tranny and original power supply caps.
Restoration Progress
Cleaned chassis, transformers and rear faceplate.
New power supply caps and cathode caps.
New grid/screen resistors, on/off and standby switches, tubes and power cord.
New signal path coupling caps. In test.
Completed Restoration
Craig sent me this feedback after receiving his amp:
I've never played through a Fender amp that sounded as great as the
Bandmaster sounds now. Ever, ever. Thank you so much! It was like
cleaning my glasses after 20 years of squinting through funk and smear.
What's left to do:
completely clean chassis and power tranny
remove and clean front and back faceplates
perform a complete cap job
install new on/off and standby switches
install new grid and screen resistors
install new power cord
perform switch-able tremolo mod
clean and tighten tube sockets
install new tubes, dc/ac test
replace signal path coupling caps
burn in
final test
